Christian Music Interviews

Artist Interview: Janet K. Thompson

Tell us about yourself and your music

I am a seasoned, savory, saved, senior citizen, that enjoys life and love’s singing, gospel music specifically; and venture with other genres of music as well. I have been singing for a very, very long time, and have been writing songs for at least twenty years or more.

My music is an outward expression, of an inward experience that flows out into a melody of praise and worship to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I like to write happy songs, that takes ones’ mind off themselves and their troubles, and thrust them into that happy, worshipping, dancing place of inner peace. I found out, when you can’t pray…you can always sing.

Talk to us more about your latest release

I released my first Gospel “EP CD” in January, 2016. I hosted a “Listen Party” for my family, friends, and supporters. In July, 2016 I officially released the CD on ITunes, Amazon, CD Baby, Spotify, Rhapsody, and all the other Internet music websites.

Since the release of this “EP CD”, I have gotten more engagements, reaped financial offerings, and people are anticipating the release of my complete project that’s in the makings as I speak.

What inspired you to write this release?

This particular release was inspired by a turbulent season in my life. I needed to experience God’s presence more than ever at that time, so the song “Let Me Touch You Lord” was born. After going through what I went through; I found myself in a place of praise, in a place of worship like I stated earlier.
What I found out was that; the LORD is always with me, and I have nothing to fear…EVER! Hence, the songs “We Worship You O’ Lord, and “Turn Up My Praise” sealed the deal, (if you will)..lol.

From these songs I envision myself touching the Lord’s sweet face, then just breakout into a praise of how I worship Him so much, and as that praise resonates in my spirit…I BEGAN TO REALLY “TURN UP MY PRAISE”.

Any plans to release a video?

Yes, as soon as I complete the whole project, prayerfully late Spring of this year 2017.

Any plans to hit the road?

Not at this time. Contemplating possibly next year 2018. (Lord willing)

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I think I have a ‘distinct’ sound, and my music (gospel music) is not totally “contemporary” or the “traditional” gospel sound. I feel have sound that fits right in between the other artists sound. I call it the “sweet spot”. Based on my audience it’s just that…because the youngest and the oldest listeners have been moved (literally) by my sound.

Who have you been listening to lately?

To be honest, not a whole lot of people; because while I’m in my creative state of writing and putting my songs together, I don’t want to be influenced by what I am hearing.

However, when I listen to other artist there’s quite a few.

Tell us about your passions

My family, working on projects for my church, ministering to women (via) radio, telephone, and face to face conversations. Enjoying the sun, and just being able to get out of bed period.

What else is happening next in your world?

I am making plans to distribute promotional merchandise for my music project.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Janet!
