Artist Interview: Seeing Deep Ministries

Tell us about yourself and your music

Hi! I am a blessed mother of 5, married to the man of my dreams who inspires me to keep doing what I love. By day I am blessed to homeshool my youngest child and work from my home as a VA for a Christian company, “Stewardship Advisory”.

By night and weekends I am a Christian CCM artist, singer/songwriter, Worship Leader and author delivering a vulnerable, authentic message through song and word, spoken and written underneath the ministry umbrella “Seeing Deep”. Seeing Deep seeks to be a compass grounded in Scripture and a place where real problems meet real, transparent faith and needed answers in Scripture.
Currently the Worship Leader for New Life Community Church in Louisa, VA, worship is a delight and I enjoy writing and singing music that encourages the body of Christ to enjoy our great God and explore through poignant lyrics how awesome our God is.
A published author with the Upper Room, I blog weekly devotions on various topics related to seeing God’s deeper purposes in the face of life’s challenges. As a conference speaker, I share a life-changing message on a topic I am currently writing a book about: Reinvented Hope. More than just trying to get our hope back again, we need to place our hope in God’s hands and have His hope for our lives when our world falls apart.

Talk to us more about your latest release

“You Are Worthy” was produced in Ed Cash’s studio and is a vibrant CCM pop song of worship proclaiming God’s worth. Ryan Mcadoo and Cody Norris, along with my son, Daniel Dovel, co-wrote the song with me. It is a fun, fresh, inspirational yet edgy worship song.

What inspired you to write this release?

Our worth is found when we proclaim God’s. I wanted to write a worship song that helped to provoke and inspire listeners to be in awe of God. All too often we become disillusioned and begin to ascribe labels to ourselves based on our circumstances or failures. We allow our lack of self-worth to affect our worship of our great God. But when we focus on God’s incredible worth, character and all He has done for His people, our focus is shifted to where it is supposed to be and we are fulfilling our God-given purpose: passionate worship of our Worthy God!

Any plans to release a video?

Yes. There is a lyric video up now, but an official music video is due out any day. My YouTube account is new (I have had it up for a few years, but just now adding content).

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, definitely. I am booking for 2017 and currently scheduled to lead worship and speak at a women’s conference March 24th-26th in PA, be the headline act for a Christian music festival, “Planting Seeds Festival” on May 13th in Palmyra, VA, and leading worship for another women’s conference September 23rd in Loveland, OH. I also lead worship locally at my church weekly. As God leads, hoping to keep the momentum rolling and get additional opportunities to serve through worship leading, guest artist events such as concerts and worship leading/speaking at women’s retreats and conferences.

As an indie artist, how do you brand yourself and your music to stand out from the rest of the artists out there?

I sincerely have prayed that the LORD would extend this territory (which is ultimately His, not mine), if it is His will and pleases Him. I have also worked hard to develop my message, attend conferences, consistently post with social media and revamp my website. I am also registered with different booking organizations which generates some leads.

Who have you been listening to lately?

Christian radio, an eclectic mix including David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, Matthew West, Kristian Stanfill, Phil Wickham, Bethel Worship, Lauren Daigle, Francesca Battistelli, Big Daddy Weave, Natalie Grant.

Tell us about your passions

To live another day is an extreme blessing that is often taken for granted. We are all on a mission and will one day be accountable for how we lived and what we did with the talents God gave to us. I work full-time and also part-time on staff at my church as a worship leader, so I rise early to seek God, exercise (ah hem, somewhat inconsistently) and work! I home educated my 5 children and am in a unique season of life where 4 are in college, so I am more able to work on ministry goals. I know all too well the pain of setting aside ministry due to an unforeseen disaster that left my children and I struggling. While I focused on healing my children’s and my hearts, I believed my calling was in the past tense – dead. I still served in the local church but did not want to step out in the public eye again. But the LORD had different plans. He resurrected the calling and has given me a vision to minister with a testimony I never wanted, but I can see God using it all for His glory and my good. I cannot keep silent or take for granted any opportunity to proclaim what God has done in my life and in the lives of my children.

What else is happening next in your world?

I am writing a book called “Hope Reinvented” and believe God will use this message to heal many who are lost in a sea of despair, trying to climb their way back up to the surface. I am also working on a worship album in tandem that I hope will be a deep experience in worshipping our God in all of life. My website is a place to visit and absorb God’s faithfulness and healing, and the blog, “Seeing Deep in a Shallow World” explores beneath the surface of life’s pain to see God’s goodness when life hurts. Video devotionals are coming out in February as well as a new music video for “You Are Worthy”.

Thanks for an awesome interview, Denise!
